Proposed by: Rotary Club of Mount Everest
Proposed Format: Rotary Joint Session / Panel Discussion
Location: Kathmandu Valley
Background
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming societies across the world. From healthcare and education to finance, governance, and communication, AI technologies are reshaping how individuals, institutions, and communities function. While these innovations offer tremendous opportunities for development and efficiency, they also raise important questions regarding ethics, accountability, and social responsibility.
For developing countries like Nepal, the integration of AI into economic and social systems presents both promise and challenges. Issues such as digital inequality, misinformation, job displacement, data privacy, and algorithmic bias are increasingly relevant. Ensuring that AI development and use remain aligned with public interest, human dignity, and social equity is becoming a critical responsibility for governments, private sector actors, and civil society.
Service-oriented organizations such as Rotary have an important role to play in fostering dialogue on emerging technologies and their social implications. By bringing together experts, policymakers, and community leaders, Rotary can help encourage responsible innovation that benefits society as a whole.
