Khumal Newa Guthi

Nepalese citizens are fortunate to celebrate " Wangmaya Satabadi Purus - Dr. Satya Mohan Joshi " who is a role model for our society among senior citizens of Nepal. Khumal Newa Guthi from Khumal Hight , Lalitpur had organized this program.

Nepal has the youngest education system in the world, with formal education starting only in 1951. Before then, educational practices were strictly forbidden by the Rana regime—an oligarchy rule that persisted in the country for 104 years. During the Rana era, school opportunities were extremely restricted and severe penalties were inflicted on those attempting to promote education (Caddell, 2007). I found very few who had formal degree from schools. I went around meeting many senior local citizens in capital of Nepal interviewing senior citizens above 90 years old regarding their educational profile and found extremely few (who received special permit from ruling Ranas) who received high school degree from capital. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chittadhar_Hridaya, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dharma_Ratna_Yami

and https://www.facebook.com/HeeraDeviYami/ were found teaching children in secret places under risky environment.
The fall of the Rana regime and establishment of a new-found democracy in 1951 introduced formal education practices in Nepal (UNESCO, 2000). The Ministry of Education was established in 1951, which planned on providing five years of primary education within 25 years (Wood 1959).
