She is the most discussed among the people in the city.
Brave wome are discussed specially among the Newah communities while their male members stayed many years in Calcutta, Kalingpomg. Women were not allowed to enter Lhasa (Tibet) as per the treaty of Nepal Tibet). The book Sun daya Ya Llisa (Lhasa Bolchhe and Reply From Tibet) the author, my father, Late Dharma Ratna Yami had tried to reflect upon what are the comparrative narratives on culture in Tibet and Nepal during his time. The book also highlights on the problems and the challenges this faced while travelling and staying in Tibet. The Nepalese traders would come home after a gap of normally ten to fifteen years. During such long period many men, who have fallen for Tibetan girls leave them behind or they bring back Tibetan women in Kathmandu. These Nepalese wives were not educated. Men too were not educated then. These men went through a lot of hardship during the journey to Yibet and around 50% of them used to die on the road or during stay in Tibet because of starvation or because of being attacked by the dacoits. It used to take one month to reach Tibet. Many wives back home used to go through lot of sufferings during the absence of their male partners.
Because of security reasons women were not allowed to go out of the house. They took complete control of household. They lacked information about husbands and often hear news about Tibetan wives. Under such uncertainty these ladies learnt to lead lives with scarce resources. Most of them managed borrowing money here and there feeding children and elderly family members. Some of them falling to the trap of money lenders losing property for not being able to return loan in time. These brave ladies they learnt to live with communities. People with a group of more than two people were not permited on the road and girls and young women were not safe on the road. The documentation of hardship of these ladies on how they learnt to survive was banned. Only thing they could do was pass on learning lesson from one mouth to another mouth to carry forward stories from one to next generation. Heera Devi came came from such families and had a very resilient nature.
