Prof Dr. Govind Bol Shrestha’s presentation on " New Findings on Nepal, Newar, Nepal Bhasha - The Science behind the Legends" was excellent. This subject matter should get a wide coverage in the local as well as international media for public awareness and particularly, drawing attention, interest, and concern of the Experts, Academia and Researchers on the related areas of study. I hope that Prof Dr Govinda Bol Shrestha will come up with many such research oriented, thought provoking write ups in future.
If ancestors were provided right kind of education with the capacity to understand and document our geotechnical changes during different times in the past including culture and life style which are shaped by the parts of our country we live in, we would instinctively understand why it is important to research and document this. The main reason for this our old events have not been documented much and rulers wanted public to be blind keeping them away from accessing education. Many countries have invested in researching, documenting, celebrating and spreading lessons learnt in the past.
I would like to thank the Rotary club of YELA and Image Rotary for organizing this event. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to a very inspiring and enriching presentation of Prof. Dr. Govind Bol Shrestha on the topics mentioned the invitation card. For the first time I am hearing very convincing logic about the origin of the Newaha community in the valley and the region including the history of the language. He elaborated the details based on the scientific evidence of geological structures of Kathmandu valley based on the Japanese research tracing back to 30,000 years ago, the courses of changes in the lake structure with variations in geotectonic variations during different historic phases. His coverage on human settlement of local people in Sakhu area was very convincing based on past narratives derived from scientific evidence. He drew his conclusions from the analysis of in-depth studies of that area because he was the inhabitant of that place and had deep passion. The scientific drainage system of the old settlement areas dated back to those historic eras is still fully functional.
Who were the Newah community? The roots of Arniko and his community who excelled in China as interns of skill in architecture also became a topic of research. One of my friends, Rajendra Rajbhandari, who worked in Jamaica (West Indies) was under U.N. program for six years. He told me that he discovered in the school text book a content highlighting the city of Kathmandu calling the city of "living museum " praising the creativity in architecture and skills during our ancient days.
The curriculum of the Universities should include such materials of historic importance. Similar initiatives are essential for dialogue on historical settlements of other parts in the region.
I wish there was a YouTube channel Talk sessions on his findings so that the Nepalese including international communities could hear about our history and status of true original language. Researchers and academicians of Nepal and other countries should do further details on the topics so that the future generations get the true picture of this region.
Nepal should rewrite history based on evidence based narratives with scientific justifications. Dr Shrestha has done wonderful research through this perspective. Government of Nepal should take special initiatives to provide space for such personalities. Dr Shrestha is an expert Electrical Engineer by profession.
