For girls and young women to thrive in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) careers, they need to acquire skills to become both ICT users and creators in the digital world.
My mother's aspiration for development of girls and women was much ahead of her time during those days when she wanted to demonstrate by walking the talk. Her health was frail then and was suffering from heart disease with two valve damaged and acute Asthma. Medical facilities were not available those days and her health problem was detected only a month before her death in All India Medical Institute in Deli in 1970. Her visit to India during her growing up age during 1030s had reshaped her perspective in life.
Old people now recall late Heera Devi’s advices regarding decisions on education. My mother I remember in 1968 used to visit Ascol Science college to watch students attending science courses. She used to go around advising guardians to encourage their children to attend Science colleges. Only Trichandra College and Amrit Science colleges existed for science stream.then.One day I recall Jagat Lal Master's daughter Lilly telling us how my mother took her to Trichandra College Science department and watched teachers teaching science courses. She was watching students with a lot of excitement. When students came out she expressed that there were girls too, especially taking mathematics. She expressed unhappiness for not being able to convince people sending girls for science courses. She felt sad that mothers were opting for marriage and not facing bravely taking up science courses. Lilly recalled Heera Devi as their own family members everyone calling her Herra Devi Tata. Both the couple always treated her as one of their own children. Heera Devi also always went there to helped them out and always shared her painful moments.
Unlike earlier generation, the current generation girls and young women are more aware of how people are adopting technology for better performance in life. For girls and young women to thrive in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) careers, they need to acquire skills to become both ICT users and creators in the digital world. Now digital skill is required for imporoving the life. India scored very high in volume of STEM career people because they cashed the international demand on innovation and technology after second world war after 1945.
Now people are partnering together to inspire and encourage girls to pursue a future in ICTs and to empower them by ensuring they have the necessary skills, confidence and support to think and perform like male members.
My mother Heera Devi Yami encouraged all her six daughters to persue STEM stream during 1960s culture unfolding in Nepal at the time in Newar community of capital Kathmandu when other mothers were looking out for best marriage partners for their daughters(age group 12-17 yrs). I remember her trying to encourage girls and young women to pursue in STEM education. However during that time she had hard time conving guardians who were not aware of upcoming oppertunities and most of them were busy with trying to meet hand to mouth. Inspire girls and young women to work in STEM careers. She was in indai during her growing up age and had seen some women align with STEM career stream.
I would like to request all to provide valuable information regarding contributions and advices regarding positioning Nepal as a country with large pool of youth volume with STEM background. There is an acute shortage of ICT pool of graduates and researchers globally and our members could also play key role in production of STEM pool for ICT industry in Nepal. Companies of Nepal are facing shortage of such back ground.
Math skills are considered essential to success in STEM fields.Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) are widely regarded as critical to the national economy. Attracting and retaining more women in the STEM workforce will maximize innovation, creativity, and competitiveness.
Multiple factors contribute to the underrepresentation of women and girls in STEM and, therefore, multiple solutions are needed to correct the imbalance. In rural population of Nepal the question of why so few women study and work in many STEM fields. Why So Few? Women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Many professional organizations are available for women who work in STEM jobs. In order to help women progress in these fields, the organizations offers mentoring and coaching services, as well as advice on work-life balance issues. They also resources to educate women in the field, such as books, workshops, educational videos, and research journals. They also participate in advocacy on behalf of female STEM workers to address the key issues that impact their careers. However these organizations should review their model incorporating technology and researchers.
Concernd stakeholders should also co-create the development of recommendations for regulating financial service providers such as fintech companies, including requiring them to fully disclose the product information and relevant risks to the general public in an appropriate way. They also should be engaged in development and implementation of national strategies and national financial education policies. Financial technology (fintech), i.e., using software, applications and digital platforms to deliver financial services to consumers and businesses through digital devices such as smartphones, are the promising tool to promote financial inclusion, i.e., access of excluded households and small firms to financial products and services.
Energy-intensive systems will increasingly find efficiency gains from digital and Web3 technologies.
THese are cloud and edge computing, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), internet of things (IoT) sensors, and blockchain technology. Adopting digital technology should be encouraged which depends not just on the availability of data, but on systems and personnek. Leader should build digital coalitions of internal and external stakeholders, to encourage willingness to digitally transform, and explain the importance of integrating digital technologies.
I have highlighted in this panel session (Nirvick Nari) on the issue of innovation and regulation incorporating female members in the regulatory bodies. in governing structures.
I have highlighted a real incidence of the role of mother of a 14 years old girl on social media. the poor mother is not aware of the danger behind the action. Hitler allowed scientists to innovate on military aircrafts however there was no regulatory body. with female members . When the project was implemented there was no regulatory body to look into the quality check of the aircrafts and many pilots died. Behind innovations accidents happen.Behind the Facebook innovation there's so many disasters and it is a job of the government and regulators. Developed countries have already well regulated bodies ,however, in a country our have so many court cases. Sapana Malla highlighted about minimum 6 cases registered in the Courts in Nepal on cyber crime. Who will regulate well? Where are the experts? These are the very important and critical areas the government should look into. Technology empowers citizens however there has to be a very strong regulatory body with female members.
In the panel I have also highlighted the IT industry which can feed hungry Nepalese people. This industry is most suitable for girls and young women. This industry requires volume production of experts. Private sector colleges and government academic institutions should go for mass production of graduates. These are the people who will feed the industry. There should be a policy for creating such volume. There is a bottleneck in the enrollment of graduate students in academic institutions blocking mass production which should be regulated well for quality standards.to ensure export of knowledge and services. This is a very good area for mass production of girls and young women for the economy of Nepal and foreign revenue for the nation.
Hope your, family members and your friends( share ) have listened to this panel session ( NirvicK Nari Kantipur TV ) on this burning issues on empowering through technology on Kantipur TV program on last Wednesday. The issues raised are very important for all the viewers. Looking forward to receive your valuable feedback.
